I had no known ability to take out a loan, until I found Housing Resources of Western Colorado.

I am just an ordinary retired widow living on a fixed income in the home my husband and I purchased in 1995. In July of 2020, my central air failed, and I had no known ability to take out a loan, until I found Housing Resources of Western Colorado. I ultimately qualified for and benefited from the Weatherization program and the Deferred Loan program.  Weatherization replaced my failed central air, added insulation to my home and installed solar panels. The deferred loan allowed replacement of floors, windows, doors and my back deck.  It felt like Christmas every day for the last quarter of 2020! I’m forever grateful! I now serve on the Board of Directors because I want to spread the word about this dedicated, knowledgeable and efficient non-profit serving fifteen counties here on the western slope of Colorado.

I was able to become a homeowner thanks to Housing Resources.

In 2008, I was able to become a homeowner thanks to Housing Resources.

In 2008, I was able to become a homeowner thanks to Housing Resources.  Through the self-help program, my daughter and I were able to have a stable, family centric place to call home.  My family and friends helped me, and my new neighbors build our homes for our families.  It is an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.  First, I bought my first home and gave my daughter the stability she was looking for.  Second, my grandparents (who have both passed away) were able to put some hours in to help and I will always have those memories.  Third, my family and friends showed up to help and build memories for a lifetime.  Without the self-help program through Housing Resources, I don’t know if I would have ever been able to afford to own a home for us.  This organization and program have been such a blessing to my family that in 2011, I joined the Board of Directors.  Then in February 2024, I joined the staff so I can be a part of the amazing team helping families all over the Western Slope.
